What was Expedition 8000?
In 2019 Nepal welcomed approximately 1.19 million visitors on tourist visas, however the impact of Covid-19 has seen this number plummet to less than 10,000 in 2020. In addition to this, 2020 was also supposed to be the year of "Visit Nepal 2020", the first large tourism initiative since 2011.

To make matters worse, like in many countries, Nepali workers lack the social security net available to those in more affluent nations. This has meant that large numbers of tourism workers have either lost a large portion of their income or have had to seek other employment.

Expedition 8000 was a fund raising initiative created by a small team of young travellers to try and raise money in support of those who have welcomed us to their country so many times.

This project drew inspiration from Project Possible, which saw Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja summit all 14 of the world's 8000m peaks in 6 months and 6 days. This amazing feat of physical endurance smashed the previous record of over 7 years.

The goal of Expedition 8000 was to emulate this amazing achievement on a stair machine, climbing each of the fourteen 8000m peaks from sea level to summit.

We eventually raised approximately $5,000 which helped support the climbing community and to raised awareness about porter's working conditions.
