Who did Expedition 8000 Support?

When we conceived the idea for Expedition 8000, we wanted to ensure that we supported an organisation that has been vocal about their support for the local climbing community and has undertaken previous charitable works.

In 2020 the team was involved in raising money for a local initiative that managed to help a total of 290 families both financially and through ration reliefs during the worst of the Covid-19 epidemic.

In 2021,  we decided to work with them again and manged to raise $2300 for the

Nimsdai Foundation.

The Nimsdai Foundation was created by Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja to provide charitable support and guidance for local communities.

Nimsdai is an ex British Gurkha and member of the Special Boat Service (SBS).  He also holds multiple climbing world records, including the fastest time to climb all eight-thousanders as well as being a member of the all Nepali team which made the first winter ascent of K2.

He has made a commitment to supporting the climbing communities throughout Covid-19 and is currently leading commercial expeditions in Nepal that are providing much needed income.

2021 also saw the launch of the Big Mountain Cleanup, which aims to provide full time, seasonal clean up teams on all widely climbed mountains around the globe in an effort to reduce the rubbish build up on mountains.
